This will take the place of this week’s Worship Confessional, and you’ll soon see why. Here’s why this post is entitled “David C. Week.”
I essentially got the day off yesterday, as we had guest artist David Crain in for both services, and he’ll be back again for the next three nights. For all intents and purposes, we are basically having a “revival” meeting this week, but we shy away from calling it a “revival” because true revival can’t be scheduled. We, of course, are praying for revival among our church and community this week, but we’re not going to say we’ve had a revival unless one truly happens.
I can’t recommend David highly enough. He wouldn’t fit every style of church out there, but if you are in a church that is either mostly tradition, or is leaning contemporary and is considered “blended” like ours, David would certainly be welcome in your church’s culture. He funny, witty, and a fine musician on top of all that. He’s really the complete package when you ask him to come. He does it all from leading congregation singing, to “concert” to preaching the Word. He does them all very well.
My ears are always open when David comes for a visit, because I know I’ll always get at least one or two songs to add to our congregations music rotation. There’s already a song he called “Come to the Holy One” that I’m going to get down and sing in the near future. If you’re in the DFW area and have a evening to spare, come and join us tonight through Wednesday at 7 PM. You’ll be blessed by what you hear.
As most of you know, David Crowder’s newest CD came out last week. My three word review: I love it! Granted, it’s not pushing the experimental edges like A Collision, but it is a solid addition to Crowder’s discography. From a worship leading standpoint, there are more songs on this CD that will translate to congregational singing than on the last. For some more contemporary churches than ours, this is not the case, but in our blended situation I would likely be looking for a new church if I pulled out “You Are My Joy.”
I’ve already chorded out “Remedy,” “Never Let Go,” and “The Glory of it All.” I don’t know if they’ll all see the light of day in our worship, but I’m going to throw them at the band in the near future and see what happens. My only “disappointment” with the album is the inclusion of “Rain Down,” but it’s not a “I hate it” kind of disappointment. I’m already familiar with the song, and it was one of the few Crowder songs that I never took a liking to. So, hearing it come up again on a new CD years later was kind of like, “meh, whatever.” The real problem is something in the production of the song. There’s some kind of high-pitched frequency mixed into this version of the song that hurts my head. Even if I really loved the song, I’d have to hit NEXT on my iPod because the song literally hurts to listen to. That’s never happened before.

Last, but certainly not least in my David C. week, is a wonderful, most excellent blessing that was given to my wife and myself. One of our newest church members is the chef at the new House of Blues - Dallas. It just so happens that he found out that Crowder is my favorite artist, and it just so happens that Crowder is at HoB this Friday night, and it just so happens that we’re getting in for free! (There’s also a possibility that we’ll be able to get into the Green Room and get some chat time with the band themselves. That would be really cool, and I’ll upload pics if that happens.)
If you happen to be going to any of the Crowder “Remedy” Club Tour, the band is asking that you bring TOWELS and SOCKS to be donated to local shelters. It’s our little way of actually becoming part of the remedy for so many who lack so much.
It’s a busy week, but what a fun week it’s going to be!
