the devil inside…the smoke alarm

t048237a the devil inside...the smoke alarmWe have smoke detectors in our house. It’s the right thing to do, and we know we are potentially more safe as a result.

We have the kind of smoke detectors that trigger the entire house if just one of them detects smoke.

We have the kind of smoke detectors that go off in the middle of the night for absolutely no reason at all, and yet don’t go off when we actually have a small fire in the oven that fills the house with smoke. Yes, this happened two days ago.

Something I’ve recently realized about our smoke detectors, not only do they have the ability to go off for no reason, and not only does it only seem to happen in the middle of the night and not during the day, but it seems they always choose to go off when we are trying to get the rest needed to be the best we can be to minister the following day.

Why do these things pick Saturday night to go off? Why do they go off when we need to be rested to better lead our church family in musical worship the next morning? Is it a plot? Is there some diabolical plan to lessen our effectiveness?

Questions I’m asking myself, especially in light of the lively conversation that’s gone on here at Shaun’s blog.

By the way, continue to pray for Shaun and all the other compassion bloggers as they are traveling and ministering in Uganda this week. Go here to get the latest news.
