confess Worship Confessional: February 10, 2008

I’ll make this short today, as I have a lot of other things needing my focus. My mind’s going in about 40 different directions now, so I hope this is coherent enough for you.

We started delving into the real meat of our iLife series yesterday, starting with a discipline that is mostly ignored or unknown in most Baptist circles: Meditation.

Meditation is a little hard to plan for musically, you know? But, I think we did a good job of melding the concepts shared from the pulpit and lyrical lines of the songs. Key words like see and think and consider and wonder kept springing up throughout our lyrics. Reflecting on the majesty and glory of God and His wonders and His works both spiritual and physical was the order of the day, culminating with making it all internal. That the praise of our lips is either a reflection of what is already on our heart, or that it would become a true heartfelt expression.

Here’s the set list:

Just a word on How Great Thou Art. This song is one of my favorite “old hymns.” I love singing the chorus at the top of my lungs, and did so again yesterday. So much so, my voice was scratchy for the rest of the day.

“And now I find the blurry line here between You and I. Raise the cup, drink ’til I’m full, sing ’til I can’t , ’til my voice is gone and my head is spinning dizzy…” [DC*B: Intoxicating]
