Worship Confessional: Palm Sunday 2008

worshipconfessional Worship Confessional: Palm Sunday 2008

I’m posting this from the past, because I’m not really here today (see previous post).

I love Passion Week, and today worship was a heart-provoking time. Our pastor was out of town, marrying off his eldest child, so Jon and I “ran the show today.” Funny thing is, we each independently planned a little “long,” and the result was a gathering about 20% longer in length than normal. Now I never really like worrying about the clock too much, but at the same time we do want to be respectful of our people’s time. Good news is, football season is over, so no Cowboys game for everyone to rush home and watch.

My choir did a preview song from next week’s musical The Wonder of the Cross. Our focus today was on the cross, Christ’s sacrifice, His work on the cross, and the significance for us today. Next week, or course, we’ll celebrate the resurrection.

The band was tight today, but we were missing our bass player. With the musical next Sunday, we won’t play together again for two weeks. I’ll miss it.

Lots of “old school” praise and worship songs in this week’s mix. Here’s the set list:

  • My’s Savior’s Love // Glenn Picket (traditional, country style)
  • The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power // Andrae Crouch
  • The Wonderful Cross // JD Walt, Chris Tomlin, Jesse Reeves
  • You Are My King (Amazing Love) // Billy James Foote
  • Nothing But the Blood // Matt Redman
  • At the Foot of the Cross // Kathryn Scott
