Worship Confessional: Easter Sunday 2008

worshipconfessional Worship Confessional: Easter Sunday 2008

Easter Sunday. Resurrection Day. The centerpiece of the Christian faith. The day that makes the crucifixion worth the cost and gives real meaning to faith in Jesus Christ as Savior.

What a good day. You probably read in my last post that I felt horrible all day. Headache, nausea, stomach cramping, the works, but it was still a good day. My choir did very well during our musical, and I feel we definitely peaked Sunday morning. Performance wise, you can’t ask for much better than that.

All the soloists did a great job, and the few who were having problems during rehearsal last week really stepped up and raised their game to fix those last minute bobbles. My audio crew did great, not missing a cue, and even though we were down a couple of singers because of sickness, the choir was full and energetic.

Spirit-wise, I can’t speak for anyone else, but I can say for myself that worship happened. I found myself in tears as the choir sang the line “bursting forth to glorious day, up from the grave He rose again,” from In Christ Alone. That’s what we gather together to celebrate each and every Sunday. I pray that central truth never grows old for any of us.

We had about a 33% increase in attendance, and that’s with quite a few of our regulars out of town (Spring Break), and some sickness floating around (no kidding).

I think I mentioned before somewhere how this year’s musical was put together. I have a real problem with spending hundreds of dollars on musical books, tracks and rehearsal tracks, only to perform a musical once or twice. I think it’s a huge waste of church resources. So, this year’s musical was kind of a “Best-Of” from the last three year’s worth of musicals. Another consideration was the short time factor we all experienced this year. All-in-all, I may do the same kind of thing again next year, we’ll see.

Here are the songs we performed yesterday:

  • Crown Him with Many Crowns (traditional derivative)
  • Hosanna (not United)
  • Every Step
  • Redeemer, Savior, Friend (Darrell Evans)
  • At the Foot of the Cross (Vertical Music)
  • The Cross (The Crabb Family)
  • In Christ Alone (Getty & Townend)
  • He Is Risen
  • There’s Not a Crown without a Cross (yes, the Michael English one)
