worshipconfessional Worship Confessional: April 6, 2008

Yesterday was “minor technical glitch day.” Nothing major was a distraction or anything, and very few people probably noticed. Thankfully, none of this stuff seemed to phase any of us on stage. Our flow was good, and all the pieces really fit together much better than even planned. I so love it when God takes what we’ve planned and makes it into something way better than we could have EVER done on our own.

We were studying the spiritual discipline of solitude—which I’ll blog about tomorrow—so all of our music today had something to do with solitude, stillness, quietness, listening, etc. Our crowd started a little thin, but by the time we hit our stride musically, the place was pretty full. I got many comments on how great everything sounded, and how the set added to the overall mood. To me, one of the highlights of the morning was hearing our pastor sing “Be Still and Know.” I really ought to get him to sing more often.

We had one of our “senior saints” who has moved away in recent years visiting us. She told me afterward how much she liked all the songs we did, even the “contemporary.” She didn’t know the songs, but she said they were beautiful. Hearing that kinds of comment from a member of the older generations is like being paid my weight in gold. I love that kind of open attitude. Here’s the set list.

  • Joy Unspeakable // Barney E. Warren (traditional)
  • Leaning on the Everlasting Arms // Hoffman & Showalter (traditional)
  • It Is Well // Spafford & Bliss (semi-traditional with a little Shane & Shane vibe)
  • Be Still and Know // Steven Curtis Chapman
  • Eagles’ Wings // Reuben Morgan
  • Majesty (Here I Am) // Martin Smith/Delirous?
