bankruptcy-300x199 Blog bankruptcyI’m declaring blog bankruptcy this week. What does that mean? Am I calling it quits?

No, I’m just declaring this week as a loss, putting it behind me and looking forward to next week. I tell ya, when I have a week with a really big migraine, it just throws off the entire schedule. Even now, two days after it finally cleared up, my brain is still in a fog and thinking clearly is something of a struggle. Oh well, at least I still have fewer of the bad ones than I did just a few years ago. Count your blessings.

I did feel like I got some things accomplished this week. Joy and I are taking the plunge and starting a full Mediterrasian diet, which I’m actually pretty excited about. We’re now in the process of eating through the food we have in the cupboard and will replace it all in the next few week with stuff only on the Mediterrasian diet list (which is very extensive, not a diet in the sense of weight-loss, but in the sense of what kind of foods you eat). My only problem will be learning how to eat fish/seafood. I’ve had a “if it lives in water it doesn’t go in my mouth” policy for years. We should be able to make a complete turn around by the time we get back from our vacation.

That’s another accomplishment for the week. In a little over a week—if we can get everything lined out the way we want—we’ll be heading down to Austin and San Antonio for a week of R&R. Being homeschoolers, we’ve talked over and over about taking the kids down to see the requisite historical sights in Texas, plus it should be a relatively inexpensive way to get away for a while. I really need the break, since this will be the first real vacation I’ve taken in nearly two years. If I have a laptop and internet available I’ll be blogging the experience.

Any bloggers in Austin or San Antonio up for a lunch meet?

Another area of progress was finally upgrading all the church Mac to Leopard. Well, actually I’ve got one more to go, but let’s not quibble shall we? I was concerned I would not be able to put it on my office machine, since I’m using prehistoric versions of Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign, and I can’t go without them for more than a few days. Luckily, I successfully partitioned my drive and kept 25 GB of Tiger, while installing Leopard on the other 125 GB. Sure, it means a reboot when I need to use an Adobe app, but it allows me the sweetness of Leopard during 85+% of my workday. Not to mention saving me around $1,200 in unnecessary Adobe upgrades. (If I were a pro designer I’d spring for it, but since I do simple things like web graphics, posters, and bulletins I don’t need all the extras I’m sure CS3 provides.)

One final area that makes me feel like the week was productive was we were able to have a real band rehearsal for the first time in a month. It was nice to get back in the saddle and not have to wing it on Sunday morning. I introduced “God of This City” to the band last night, but I honestly don’t think it will ever fly in our church. We’ll see. Which also reminds me that I didn’t post a confessional this week. Oh well, bankruptcy and all that.

Enough rambling. I will now spend my day off cleaning the house for my wife’s Mary Kay party tonight, and then spend some great time out this evening in town at the giant Recycled Books store.
