I’m all for the modern worship movement, but sometimes there are old songs that say best what is in your heart. Here are some lyrics resonating in my soul today, and they remain as relevant today as when they were written in 1911.
Rise Up, O Church of God—William P. Merrill
Rise up, O Church of God!
Have done with lesser things;
Give heart and mind and soul and strength
To serve the King of kings.

Ah. So refreshing.
In fact I just might be inspired to take this concept and write a new song from it.
I’ll reword it of course!
Thanks for sharing!
@Russ, that would be pretty cool. When you get it done, forward it along to me. I’d love to hear it.
Jeffro,
Nice post! I feel the same way! How is the hymn picking going? I should have told you this before-I have tons of old hymnbooks so let me know if I can help ya!

This hymn definitely is what I relate to my own church. I yearn to see us sing hymns like this, & “O God, Our Help in Ages Past” as well as the song “Hosanna” (which you posted next) with such honesty & yearning for God to continue working in us & to be willing to let Him change us (& the church) inside out!
