We were into part 2 of our series, The Lord is My Shepherd, and I had another day of confirmation that I chose the right music for the day. The central though for the sermon was from Isaiah 53:6, “All we like sheep have gone astray…,” and so much of our music had that as an idea. The best choice probably would have been “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” with the line “prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love,” but that song is overdone here, so I stayed away from it.
For three weeks in a row we’ve done a David Crain song, though it was not intentional. His music has just been a great fit lately, and there’s one more of his we do that will likely appear in the near future. He has put together some great Scripture songs for the Georgia Baptist Convention, and there’s a couple we’ve latched onto. We did “Romans 3:23,” and the song is great except you can tell some people feel weird singing the Scripture reference out. We’ll keep doing it anyway, because if for no other reason it makes the Word stick in the head of the hearer. There’s likely not many people in our church who cannot quote Romans 3:23, even if they’ve never memorized any other verse of Scripture.
Here’s the set list:
At Calvary // William Newell & Daniel Towner

He Hideth My Soul // Fanny J. Crosby & William Kirkpatrick
Come Ye Sinners // Joseph Hart & Robbie Seay
All the Way My Savior Leads Me // Fanny J. Crosby & Chris Tomlin

This is also a part of Sunday Setlists at Fred McKinnon [dot] com.
