Kindle Luv

I’ve had my Kindle for over a month now, and I promised another post about my experiences with it

After starting this post up, I saw that it was getting more wordy than I’m in the mood for, and probably more wordy than you will all read, so I’m starting over.

Long story short, I absolutely love this device. I’m finding I’m reading books about twice as fast on my Kindle compared to traditional paper books. Not to mention the fact that, if I want to buy a brand new book, if it’s available for the Kindle it cost exponentially less than the physical book.

Unless you’re looking for an iPhone like experience, the Kindle is fantastic. It is primarily designed to be an ebook display device, which it does extremely well. So, rather than talking about it a lot, I used the built-in screen shot capability to give you some glimpses. [Click any of the shots below for full size images. Yes, this is pretty much exactly what you see when you read on a Kindle.]

This is a shot of the menu system. I currently have my books organized by author’s last name. Notice next to last is Anne Jackson. I converted and imported her sample chapter of Mad Church Disease. You can see a screen shot of the “cover page” I made for the converted ebook below. [Yeah, I read lots of sci-fi/fantasy too. :) ]

No device is complete without Minesweeper.

Yep, that’s 1 Peter 4 on m.youversion.com. The Kindle has internet connectivity included free via Amazon’s Whispernet, which is actually just Sprint’s EVDO network. The network itself is actually pretty slow compared to most other devices (ie. iPhone), and the e-ink screen doesn’t lend itself to viewing any sites with Flash or heavy graphics. But when I’m out in Sweetwater visiting my Mom, I’ll be able to keep up with checking Gmail on my Kindle better than on her dial-up.

It’s a little on the slow side, but you can use Google Maps in a pinch if you’re lost.

All in all, I’m completely sold on the Kindle. That’s a good thing, since I bought one.
